Browns WR Josh Gordon Addresses Critics

Recommended Posts

A league source tells the Cleveland Plain Dealer it’s possible suspended WR Josh Gordon "hasn't shown the NFL enough of a commitment to sobriety."

Roger Goodell said at last month’s Owners Meetings he would have an update on Gordon in two weeks, but there's no timeline for his potential reinstatement. Gordon has stayed out of trouble during his suspension, though it’s still anyones guess if he’s passed the league’s guidelines. The Browns are viewing it as a bonus if Gordon returns for 2016.

Who is the NFL kidding? The guy has stayed out of trouble. Fucking re-instate him already and stop taking a great player away from fans over a little weed. Jesus tap-dancing Christ, Goodell. Fuck off.

Per Rotoworld.com:

FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo reports suspended WR Josh Gordon's reinstatement process has been held up by another failed drug test.
Garafolo makes it clear that Gordon isn't necessarily suspended for another year, but it's not looking good. Collected by the NFL in early March, Gordon's test reportedly came up positive for "marijuana and dilute." "Though the level of marijuana was below the 35 nanograms per milliliter required for a positive test, the diluted sample is considered a positive test," per Garafolo. Gordon is currently living with Johnny Manziel in L.A. Garafolo also reported that several people "close to Manziel" are concerned that Johnny Football "continues to party in Los Angeles, even as his NFL career is at a low point." Apr 11 - 6:06 PM
Source: FOX Sports

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Browns were getting a sense suspended WR Josh Gordon was not going to be reinstated "anytime soon" and were "fearing the worst."
La Canfora adds that the NFL had growing concerns about who Gordon was associating with. In other words, everyone saw this coming. Gordon failed another drug test last month, which should end any chance of him playing next season. Immensely talented, Gordon has wasted his prime years by repeating the same mistakes. The Browns don't need to cut him while he's suspended but the soon-to-be 25-year-old is surely running out of second chances. Apr 11 - 7:55 PM

Why is someone who is trying to stay sober and get back on track (I don't care about the weed, but from the perspective of the league) LIVING with one Johnny Football? Josh Gordon is one of the biggest morons in the history of this sport and could go down as one of the most colossal wastes of talent ever.

The things he was doing, at such a young age... In Cleveland... with that group of QBs and supporting talent? It was nothing short of astounding and he could have shattered records.

Weed needs to be tolerated by the NFL. That is the only solution to this. Give the guy some fucking structure. I would rather the league shy away from punishments for weed than not be able to watch Josh Gordon play football. People are justifying his absence because of absurd rules that shouldn't be in place in the first place.

What's he gonna say now? He claims to have no smoked weed in years. Well, you tell me how this keeps happening, Josh.

if someone is telling you they will give you millions of dollars based on something you have a natural talent for provided you don't do "X" are you really going to go ahead and do "X" anyway? I will concede that I've never tried pot so I don't know how awesome it is, but you can't convince me that it's awesome enough to piss away a promising NFL career

I smoke occasionally. If someone offered me millions of dollars with the stipulation that I couldn't smoke, I would unquestionably give it up.

Yup, I'm high most of the time anymore, but if a multi-million dollar career were contingent on giving it up, I'd drop it in heart beat. I've quit multiple times for over 6 months, cold turkey, it's not that hard.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer believes the Browns could welcome suspended WR Josh Gordon back if he's reinstated when first eligible in August.

ESPN's Pat McManamon guessed in May that the team would move on from the troubled wideout, but beat writer May Kay Cabot believes new coach Hue Jackson will be "surprised" by Gordon. Cabot expects Jackson to "look (Gordon) in the eyes and try to determine if he's as committed as he needs to be." For all the headaches he's caused, it's hard to believe the Browns would move on from a player as talented as Gordon. Unlike Johnny Manziel, he's an actual star, and his transgressions have been less serious.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports reports commissioner Roger Goodell would not have met with suspended WR Josh Gordon unless he was "taking the necessary steps to get back into the NFL."

The meeting was just a preliminary step, but one that wouldn't have happened unless Gordon appeared to be on the straight and narrow. The next step will be Gordon formally applying for reinstatement on August 1. Even if Gordon is allowed to play in 2016, he could still be slapped with a shorter ban. It's also not a guarantee the Browns will take him back, but reporter Mary Kay Cabot believes they will.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports suspended Browns WR Josh Gordon will be reinstated after serving a four-game suspension to begin the season.

It's somewhat shocking news. Gordon's career appeared to be on the brink at times this offseason, but he's kept his head down since being unfortunately linked to Johnny Manziel. Per Rapsheet, Gordon's reinstatement is conditional, but he will be allowed to participate in training camp. That means he should be in near peak shape when he returns in Week 5. It's important to remember that Gordon has played in just five NFL games over the past two years, but he's still only 25 years old. He's a mid-round pick who will be an immediate WR3 upon his return, and perhaps a WR1 by the time it's all said and done.

Did not see that coming! I like it. :megusta:
