FartWaffles 1,857 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) http://kotaku.com/nintendos-president-has-passed-away-1717386412 Nintendo has just issued a short statement announcing that president Satoru Iwata has passed away at the age of 55. The statement reads: Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth. Iwata was forced to skip last years E3 due to his poor health, and shortly afterwards underwent surgery to remove the bile duct growth. A few months later, in the wake of concerns over his health, he said via Twitter Im progressing well. A talented programmer, Iwata first joined Nintendos HAL Laboratory in the 1980s, where he worked on games like Balloon Fight and EarthBound. He became a Director of the company in 2000, and in 2002 was appointed as only the fourth President of Nintendo when he succeeded Hiroshi Yamauchi. In his time as President, Iwata oversaw some of the strongest (Wii, DS) and weakest (GameCube, Wii U) periods in Nintendos history as a video game company. In recent times, he developed almost cult status as the host of the Nintendo Direct programs. An immensely popular figure both within the industry and with Nintendo fans, he will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace, Mr. Iwata. Edited July 13, 2015 by FartWaffles

FartWaffles 1,857 Posted July 13, 2015 R.I.P. Gonna be really interesting to see the direction Nintendo takes now. Yeah definitely. Iwata was the head of some good times, and some not-so-good times for Nintendo, but he was an innovative and outside the box thinker that will be very hard to be replaced. R.I.P. Iwata. Bay 2,003 Posted July 13, 2015 Didn't know a whole lot about this man but I do know 55 is way too young to go.
Turry 755 Posted July 13, 2015 People knock the GC all they want but it was solid system which had some really good games.
theMileHighGuy 656 Posted July 14, 2015 I don't understand it, I think the Game Cube was Nintendo's best system after the SNES. Loads of great 4 player games kept us entertained through college. You could also grab the handle and beat someone to death with it if need be.
Bucman 891 Posted July 14, 2015 RIP. I hope Nintendo takes a new approach with its next consoles. They need to branch out more. They could destroy the other consoles if they actually landed a similar game list.

And right now they don't have those blockbuster non-Nintendo IPs but they also don't have as many of their own IPs as they should.Give me lots of new Zeldas. Give me some Star Fox. Bring me some epic RPGs ... Give me Pokemon on console. Give me Earthbound. Give me Metroid!!! Hell, you can exploit Mario until the end of time -- give me another Yoshi's story somehow. You're frickin Nintendo. Look ho wlong it took them to start up a new Harvest Moon project, FFS. It was really awesome playing on Smash the other day though, practically everyone changed their gamertag to RIP* IWATA which was really cool, I thought. You're better off downloading the fan translated rom that's out there. Shigesato Itoi has stated many times that he has no desire to ever make another Mother/Earthbound game. It's a problem that those titles are just coming out now, when Nintendo has been struggling in the console market for years. The Wii U is a really solid console, but nobody takes it seriously because it's lacked titles that people really want to play. The big title out recently is Splatoon... I mean, think about that for a second. Splatoon is your blockbuster title (again, in the moment)
RazorStar 4,025 Posted July 15, 2015 Splatoon rapes every Call of Duty in the market right now so that's not really a black mark.
