This much is known: Dalton was already been ruled out next week, and the traditional timeline for a fractured thumb goes at least a month. oochymp 2,393 Posted December 14, 2015 (edited) Cincy's magic number is 2 with six total games remaining (Pittsburgh's and Cincy's) Pittsburgh needs all six games to go in its favor to win the division outright, but can get it through tiebreakers if five go right Playing with ESPN's Playoff Machine I see the following: I'll start with Pittsburgh winning out and Cincy going 1-2, the teams would be tied at 11-5 but depending on which game Cincy wins they're still likely to win the tiebreaker: if Cincy's win comes against Baltimore they win b/o divisional record, if it comes against Denver they win b/o conference record, if it comes against San Fransisco then it comes down to Strength of Victory, which right now sits with Pittsburgh (meaning in the Playoff Machine I set every game that didn't involve Pittsburgh or Cincy as a tie) but could fluctuate and is more complex than I feel like detailing in a hypothetical If Cincy loses out and Pittsburgh goes 2-1 then the teams would be tied at 10-6, but Cincy would win the tiebreaker: if Pittsburgh's loss comes against Denver then Cincy wins b/o conference record, if it comes against Baltimore or Cleveland then Cincy wins based on divisional record so really, I said Cincy's magic number was 2, but as long as they have one of the six games go their way they're probalby gonna win the division But, Cincy could also find themselves out of the playoffs still, if they lose out and Pittsburgh, Kansas City, and the Jets all win out then Pittsburgh would get the division and KC and NYJ would both be a game ahead of Cincy for the Wild Card spots Edited December 14, 2015 by oochymp 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Are any of you guys suddenly card carrying members of the Andy Dalton fan club? Who's really bought in to the train of thought that he's turned a corner? Last I checked, he's still a one-and-done coke that can't handle the spotlight until he finally proves he can swallow solid food. Him going down might not make the team better, but it doesn't necessarily make them worse. I'd go as far as to say that best case scenario, they go one and done with him on the sideline. Vin+ 3,121 Posted January 5, 2016 ESPN's Bob Holtzman reports Andy Dalton had his cast removed, but his availability for Saturday's game against the Steelers is still uncertain. The Bengals are preparing as if A.J. McCarron will start, but that could change if Dalton is able to grip and control the ball in practice this week. McCarron has been solid as a game manager since Dalton went down, but Cincinnati will likely need more to take down one of the most explosive offenses in the league.
