The Official Kenny Britt Arrests Thread

Recommended Posts

Per Rotoworld.com:

Felony charges against Kenny Britt were reduced by a New Jersey prosecutor's office Wednesday.

Britt, arrested on April 12 after a car chase, has had the felony charge of eluding a police officer dropped. He now faces three disorderly person charges, all of which are lesser in severity. A hearing is set for June 7. "Nobody was hurt and since he had no prior criminal record the matter was sent down to Bayonne Municipal Court," explained Hudson County prosecutor Edward DeFazio. Per Rotoworld:

Kenny Britt was fined $478 after pleading guilty to a careless driving charge stemming from his April arrest in New Jersey.

As beat writer Jim Wyatt suggests, Britt should consider himself lucky. He got off easy with just four points added to his driver's license after originally facing felony charges stemming from a car chase with police. Britt has flirted with legal disaster several times since entering the league, but he's been the Teflon Titan. Nothing sticks. We can't imagine Britt will face a suspension for what has been ruled a minor vehicle violation.

Okay this is just getting fucking ridiculous...

Per Rotoworld:

Kenny Britt was arrested yet again Wednesday night by Hoboken (NJ) narcotics officers and charged with two counts of resisting arrest.

Here we go again. On the same day he was let off easy with a careless driving charge, Britt pushed away from officers and wouldn't submit to handcuffs. He's been charged with a minor disorderly persons offense as well as a third-degree crime, which carries a possible sentence of 3-5 years if convicted. Scheduled to appear in court June 16, Britt is once again in danger of NFL suspension after seemingly escaping punishment on Wednesday. Had he been present at Titans players-only workouts Wednesday instead of continuing to flirt with trouble in Jersey, the incident would have been avoided.

Just as the days without an arrest meter was inching toward 20, a familiar name has sent it back to double zero.

Titans receiver Kenny Britt, only a day after pleading guilty to reduced charges arising from an April car chase-and-park-and-walk-away-nonchalantly, was arrested in New Jersey on two counts of resisting arrest.

Per the Newark Star-Ledger, the criminal complaint states that Britt “did purposely prevent or attempt to prevent a public servant from lawfully performing an official function by means of force or violence, specifically by refusing to open your hand when ordered to do so then pulling your hand away.†He also allegedly used his body “to push away from the officers†and allegedly pulled away his arm “while not allowing the officers to handcuff†him.

It’s unclear why the police — narcotics officers in Hoboken — were trying to arrest Britt.

Wildly talented but also wildly erratic, Britt likely would have been better off heading to Tennessee to work out with teammates. Indeed, Britt’s dad previously said that he wanted to see Kenny leave New Jersey and go back to Nashville.

“[M]y concern is not with Kenny, per se, it’s more with Kenny’s friends, and he knows that,†Britt’s father said. “He has too many friends with too much free time. He needs to be around more positive people.â€

At his current pace, Britt eventually will be around a lot of exclusively negative people. All of whom will be completely positive about their own innocence.

Per Rotoworld:

Updating a previous item, Kenny Britt allegedly crushed a marijuana cigar to hide it from police before he was arrested Wednesday night.

We're not naive enough to believe that a high percentage of NFL players aren't smoking pot during the offseason, but this highlights the concern about Britt's off-field judgment. "[New Jersey] is where Kenny is very, very weak," explained his former high school coach earlier in the week. "His judgment on who to hang with and where to be, what time to go home and sleep, and should I be at this club or that club? That's his problem. ... You just can't be nice. You gotta be tough on Kenny. You gotta be mean on Kenny." The presence of marijuana in addition to Britt's multiple previous offenses bodes poorly for his chances of avoiding an NFL suspension.

Per Rotoworld:

Hudson County (NJ) prosecutor Edward DeFazio clarifies that Kenny Britt is not facing a drug charge for allegedly crushing a marijuana cigarette before his Wednesday night arrest.

Police suspected Britt was smoking pot, but there were no drugs found at the scene. It's an otherwise minor incident, blown up because Britt refused to cooperate with authorities. It now looks like Britt could get off with a slap on the wrist again, though his multiple arrests will still put him in danger of a suspension if the NFL is successful in disciplining players for infractions during the lockout.

Actually Rooney, it's only been six times...

Per Rotoworld:

Kenny Britt has been arrested six times since the Titans drafted him in 2009.

Britt has escaped serious legal consequences largely because his infractions have been minor in nature. Three arrests were determined to be minor vehicle violations, one involved a bar fight, and another was the result of not following through on a promise to post bail for a friend. "I don't like to say this, but these things in the overall scheme of things are not the most serious matters we have to deal with," conceded Hudson County prosecutor Edward DeFazio.

Per Rotoworld.com:

The Tennessean reports that Kenny Britt is now a wanted person in Nashville for outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

Britt has two arrests warrants out in the city via the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Police claim Britt made "inaccurate statements" for driver's license applications, and is now expected to turn himself in. This may at least partly explain why Britt has been hanging out in New Jersey in recent weeks. Said former Titans OC Mike Heimerdinger Monday when asked about Britt, "Kenny can be as good as anybody, but eventually you have to grow up." Jun 13, 2:43 PM

Kenny Britt surrendered to police Wednesday and is free on $2,000 bond on multiple warrants from a false drivers license application.

Britt was charged, fingerprinted, and booked, according to the Nashville Tennessean's Jim Wyatt. His court date is July 18. The NFL has vowed to enforce its Personal Conduct Policy on players who violated it during the lockout, though the players' side will surely have plenty to say about that in the new CBA. Per Rotoworld.com:

Harold E. Pointer has filed a civil lawsuit against Kenny Britt, alleging Britt assaulted him during his now infamous fight at Nashville's Club Karma last October.

Pointer alleged in October that Britt punched him in the face, creating a wound that required stitches. He is seeking $150,000 in punitive and compensatory damages. Britt was never charged in the case. Jul 2, 11:34 AM

Per Rotoworld:

According to Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole, the NFLPA is "unlikely to put up a huge fight" when it comes to league discipline of players who were arrested during the lockout.

Kenny Britt was arrested three times from April through June, so he's in some serious hot water if Cole's report is correct. Britt also had a civil case brought against him. If the NFL can enforce its Personal Conduct Policy as usual, Britt could be facing at least a four-game suspension. We should know more about league discipline on such matters by the end of the week.

Bump!

compared to this shit, a DUI where nobody was hurt (and he probably had a pretty low BAC from what I've read) really doesn't look that bad

Per Rotoworld.com:

John Glennon of the Nashville Tennessean "guesses" that Kenny Britt (knee surgeries) will face a suspension of "two games, four at most" following his offseason DUI arrest.

The NFL has the ability to make up for lost time a bit after Britt's three arrests during the 2011 lockout, none of which led to league discipline because they were beyond the NFL's jurisdiction. Glennon's estimate wouldn't be too harsh, though. Britt's knee recovery is his most pressing issue right now. He's undergone three knee surgeries over the past ten months. Aug 3 - 12:28 PM

it's been about three weeks since Britt's meeting with Goodell and still no word on a possible suspension, we have to make final cuts by the end of the week, am I the only one who finds this timeline completely unacceptable?
