RazorStar 4,025 Posted October 19, 2011 (edited) Hallo members of TGP. I am undergoing a new project of an idea I got on a random tangent. I want to determine the true value of a high draft pick, to see if the first overall pick is really worth all the hutzpah. I'd do the compiling myself, but I still need some input from other people in order for this to be a less biased assignment. For each year from 1997 to 2008 I want you guys to give me a list of the top 32 players, in order for each draft class. What I'll do is get all of the results together (After my Midterm Hell Week is over), and rate the players who make the big list. Undrafted and Supplemental Draft Players are allowed. Top 5 Picks automatically get 4 base points. For each tier they go down on the consensus rankings they lose one base point. If they are off the list entirely they have a score of zero. Picks 6-10 have a base score of 3. They can go up one point if they are rated in the consensus top 5, and they can lose base points if they go down it tiers. If they stay in the consensus 6 to 10 range, they stay at their base points. Picks 11-20 have a base score of 2. etc etc Picks 21-32 have a base score of 1. etc etc Rounds 2 through the undrafted have a base score of 0. I'll just keep track of these so I can have some good 'surprise' places for GM's to consider drafting players. So for each draft selection (in the first round) I should have a score from each draft between 0 and 4. Theoretically, you should see the highest base score for the first pick, and gradually descending from there. I hope that won't be the case but it'll be interesting to see. Oh and there will be a graph. So all you eager people, you can start giving me lists for any year as soon as you can. I would like to have at least 10 lists for each year. Completed Lists so far: 1997 - Shotgun 1998 - No one 1999 - no one 2000 - AirMcNair 2001 - Phins4life, BayAreaBomber, RazorStar 2002 - no one 2003 - no one 2004 - BayAreaBomber, RazorStar 2005 - no one 2006 - no one 2007 - ZackofSteel 2008 - housemd Edited October 29, 2011 by RazorStar

badgers 380 Posted October 19, 2011 Wow this is going to be a lot of work if I'm understanding you correctly. You want us to take the best 32 players from each draft class during that 10 year span, and list all 32 of them in order of who was the best to 32nd best? If that's true, I'll help out if I can get the time, and you have a lot of work ahead of you lol.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted October 19, 2011 GoBadgers has it dead on. And yeah it's a lot of work, so you might find yourself wanting to focus on doing one year at a time. (Because if I just wanted them in order of draft position, I'd use NFL.com, Wikipedia, or Pro-Football-Reference). I'll be using the consensus list to compare to the actual drafted list. In a way it's like doing a redraft, but without considering positional need, but just strictly the Best Player Available. The Most valuable picks will end up with 4 points for each draft class, and the draft positions at the end with the most points (Maximum of 48), are what should theoretically be considered the best positions to draft a player at. badgers 380 Posted October 20, 2011 I have no clue for 31 and 32..I was able to get up to 25 without having to look through wikipedia, but after that I had to go on a scavenger hunt for 26-30. Maybe you can fill in the blanks on 31 and 32 Razor..I'm at a loss. Mark Tauscher and Dhani Jones? Just two names that you didn't have that popped out to me. .AirMcNair. 1,232 Posted October 20, 2011 (edited) Mark Tauscher and Dhani Jones? Just two names that you didn't have that popped out to me. I had forgot all about Dhani Jones, lol, and to be quite frank, I don't think I've ever heard of Tauscher til now. Looking in to him a little though, I think I'm gonna bump Franks, Grant, Gold, Smith and Northcutt all down and place Tauscher and Jones ahead of them, as Franks/Grant/Gold/Smith/Northcutt were the most disappointing people on this list, IMO. THis is the toughest part about this..you always forget at least 1 guy, if not more. I'm lucky I didn't forget more than just Dhani, lol. Edited October 20, 2011 by .AirMcNair. Shotgun 442 Posted October 20, 2011 I've thought myself that coming up with 32 for every year will be a bit challenging. Some of the drafts don't have all that many good players while a few others are stacked.

Cornelius Griffin Marcus Washington Deltha O'Neal Na'il Diggs Corey Simon Thought of O'Neal, but he went from average, great, average, terrible, great, average, terrible, lol. May very well be the most inconsistent corner(and one of the most inconsistent players) of the past decade.
