ATL_Predator+ 1,196 Posted January 17, 2013 Not quite the same, with the mix in the 43 34 defenses, it is unfair to have a top 10 group for ALL defensive ends. Instead. This will be a thread for SEPARATE lists of Top 8 4-3 AND 3-4 defensive ends. The reason why the number is eight, is because we still want to keep in perspective of who the best ends are, not just trying to round out the top 10 for both techniques...for the bottom 2 of 10 in each category would not be considered overall top 10 if the two techniques were to be lumped. Hope that makes sense...now... GO!

BwareDWare94 723 Posted January 17, 2013 What about Jared Allen, Razor? There's no way he's not a top 10 4-3 (and overall) DE.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted January 17, 2013 I would put him at 11. I dunno, I just didn't think much of what he did this year, same with Trent Cole, who probably would have been high up here last year. There are a lot of good 4-3 DE's in the league, and I'm leaving out 'the other guys' who are actually pretty good like Brian Robison and Isreal Idonjie. RazorStar 4,025 Posted January 17, 2013 To be honest, I didn't know whether to classify Ngata as a 3-4 DE or a 4-3 DT. If I think of him as a 4-3 DT, he's probably 2nd or 3rd just behind Geno Atkins, and maybe that fat guy in New England. He probably plays like a 3-4 end more often though. AllYouNeedIsLovie 377 Posted January 19, 2013 Everyone besides me has Cameron Wake at #1... Has he learned how to stop the run really well? I honestly didn't pay too much attention to him this year.
Kayoh 1 Posted January 19, 2013 (edited) Everyone besides me has Cameron Wake at #1... Has he learned how to stop the run really well? I honestly didn't pay too much attention to him this year. yes. Wake is tied for 3rd in the NFL (behind Allen & Cameron Jordan, tied with Lamarr Houston) for most stops in the NFL amongst 4-3 DEs. Stop is defined by tackle on a run play that causes the offense to gain less than 40% of the yards required to get a first down on first down, 60% on second, and 100% on 3rd/4th. BwareDWare94 723 Posted January 20, 2013 Oh thank God. People are finally putting Allen on their lists. Him not being #1 or 2 in the 4-3 section, and often missing altogether, had me scratching my head.
Glanvilles Grits 142 Posted January 20, 2013 Is this defensive ENDS or defensive lineman? Because a lot of you are putting 3-4 DTs in as 3-4 DEs. Make up your minds. Playing a snap here and a snap here at end doesn't make you a defensive end. Ngata and Raji are defensive tackles who play outside in just a couple sets. Not often enough to be considered a defensive end, not even close. So until you say that, I'll do 4-3 defensive ends: 1. Jared Allen 2. Cameron Wake 3. Julius Peppers 4. Charles Johnson 5. John Abraham 6. Mario Williams - Played injured all year, I can't drop him off this list yet he still put in solid production. 7. Chris Clemons 8. Jason Pierre-Paul
Glanvilles Grits 142 Posted January 20, 2013 Alright, here's my 3-4 list. 3-4 Defensive Ends: 1. JJ Watt 2. Justin Smith 3. Antonio Smith - He's playing opposite JJ Watt, but still puts up solid #'s for 3-4 DEs. 4. Calais Campbell 5. Corey Liudget 6. Muhammad Wilkerson 7. Brett Keisel 8. Ziggy Hood - this kid has gotten so good in recently. He gets better every time he steps on the field. Perhaps he should have just been an honorable mention, but he has real talent and he plays both the run and pass well.

Turry 755 Posted January 20, 2013 Ngata plays as 3-4 end not a nose tackle and in 4-3 he is a DT. 1
