Week 3 Rankings

LeSean McCoy is making it difficult for anybody to catch up to him, but I'm sure the Eagles would rather take a couple of wins if it meant McCoy was less dominant. Just makes you wonder what he would have done if Andy didn't squander the start of his career.

I am very surprised by D-Will. He's been it really well, just had the bad fumble in the Hawks game.

Shady is doing all he can to pull away from these fools who call themselves elite RB's. Arian Foster's brilliant game against the Rams has catapulted him into the second spot, and from there it's a dog fight all the way to the tenth spot.

Anytime McCoy has a poor game rushing he catches 5-6 passes. I'd really like to see us run more with the other backs and have McCoy get like 18 carries and like 5-6 catches a game. I think that's how we get the most use of him. I think we should give Bryce Brown and the other backs like 10-12 carries a game ideally as well so we can give LeSean the breathers he needs to stay fresh and avoid injury. If we need McCoy more in some games then you do what you have to but ideally this is how I would use our personnel. I'd be using all those TE's to block and catch passes too.

Mathews is a middling running back, and yet so important to our offense. We really count on him to establish at least the threat of a ground game. And one thing I'll give him is the ability to create 2-3 yard runs out of what well could be negative plays. Those runs are vital in keeping defenses honest. The consequence of losing him became pretty clear when he went down against Oakland. But I'm certainly not going to start celebrating because he had a nice outing against the Jaguars.

He had a good outing against the Colts as well. Worth celebrating now seeing how he hadn't had a 100 yard game in two years.

Another bad run defense, at least up until this past week.

But I'm not saying I'm down on the kid. I guess I just mean I'm not going to gloat over good outings versus a really bad team.

Would it be a huge undertaking for you if I asked you how Joseph Randle graded out in his first start? I thought he was exceptionally solid, and had some nice yardage catching the ball, too.

These grades only cover skill runnng the ball, so Randle had a modest day, with a 27 grade. 19 carries for 65 yards.

Hey, week 8 is in the books, and we have three great performances from NFC West backs taking the top spots for performances of the week. Here's the kicker though, none of those backs are named Frank Gore or Marshawn Lynch. Surprised? Yeah, I know I am. Shady keeps his hold of the top spot as the backs below him shuffle around every single week.

Well this week just blew the blocks off for runningback performances. Before we were lucky to get one 100 performance per week, this week our top 5 is filled with them. So here are all the spectacular performances of the week.

1. Chris Johnson 116; 23 carries, 150 yards, 2 TDs

2. Eddie Lacy 112; 22 carries, 150 yards, 1 TD

3. Chris Ivory 109; 18 carries, 139 yards, 1 TD

4. Mike James 102; 28 carries; 158 yards

5. Adrian Peterson 96; 25 carries, 140 yards, 1 TD

Also of mention, CJ Spiller, Zac Stacy, Matt Forte, Marshawn Lynch, Alfred Morris, Gio Bernard and Stevan Ridley all had grades of 70 or higher. What a week for runningbacks. With McCoy's merely average performance this week, the gap is nearly invisible now. Freddy Morris, Adrian Peterson, Forte, and Lynch are all right on McCoy's tail for the top spot.

Week 10 is in the books. And after Thursday's game I had hope that we'd have a new number 1 back this week. Then I realized the Eagles were playing the Packers, and the Packers cannot play defense. Soooo, let's take a look at the top five performances of the week, before we hit the rankings. At the moment the number of carries a back needs to qualify is 59.
