Shotgun 442 Posted February 18, 2013 I think it'll be another pretty good draft for D-linemen and a decent one for O-linemen, but overall this is a pretty weak draft class. According to Mayock he doesn't see very much top-level talent, but there is a lot of depth for rounds 2-4.
DonovanMcnabb for H.O.F 2,241 Posted February 18, 2013 Some comments from Mayock... NFL Network's Mike Mayock said his "jaw dropped" after studying Tennessee WR Cordarrelle Patterson on tape. "The one kid I'm really interested in seeing run (at the Combine) is the Patterson kid from Tennessee," said Mayock. "You heard me say earlier I haven't seen any really explosive difference makers (in this draft); This kid's only played one year of Division-I football. And I put the tape on, my jaw dropped. And he's big. ... He's 6-foot-3, 200-plus pounds, and he flies. And he makes people miss all over the field. All I know is his ceiling could be really exciting because he's so darn raw. And I can't wait to see him run." Patterson might make his case for being a top 10 if he runs well. NFL Network's Mike Mayock said on the Rich Eisen Podcast that he believes the 2013 NFL Draft is as deep as it's ever been, but short on "explosive difference makers" at the top. "I think we've got more depth for the first three rounds than maybe anytime you and I have ever done the draft," Mayock told Eisen. "But I'm not seeing the difference makers at the top end. Every year, we've had a quarterback or a Von Miller. I'm not seeing the explosive difference makers at the top end of this draft and I'm not sure that the fifth pick is that much better than the 20th pick. Or the 30th pick. The good news is I think there's a lot of depth here. And there are a lot of really good football players." Some teams Daniel Jeremiah has spoken with feel Ohio State DT Johnathan Hankins is more likely to go at the top of the second-round than in the first. Jeremiah himself gave Hankins a late first-round grade, similar to our evaluation. "Hankins has excellent functional strength and should fit in very nicely as a 3-4 defensive end at the next level," Jeremiah writes. "As a pass rusher, he relies almost solely on power to push the pocket." Not Mayock's biggest fan, but I agree with most of what he said.

CampinWithaMissingPerson 2,025 Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) Landry Jones even in the top 5 QBs? I got Warford over Cooper, Montgomery ain't in my top 5 (but then again I consider guys he put as OLB as DEs too.) Khaseem Greene over Arthur Brown? I would say the same to him putting him over Mingo too, but then again Greene is only a OLB prospect, Mingo is a DE hybrid so I'll let that slide. But I like Mingo better as a prospect than Greene I'll say that. Ogletree over Minter? Nah. Milliner as the top CB? No thanks, I got Banks lower too. Alford and Webb are in or right under my top 5. Elam as the 2nd best safety? Wow, I love Elam but no way. Big liability in coverage (being out of place.) Not having Swearinger in his top 5, especially with the overrated Eric Reid on it is unacceptable. Vaccaro, Swearinger and Cyprien are my top 3 safeties. EDIT: Also forgot to mention, Jesse Williams not being in his top 5 DTs is very questionable IMO. Edited February 19, 2013 by CampinWithGoatSampson
housemd 338 Posted February 20, 2013 Milliner as the top CB? No thanks, I got Banks lower too. Wonder who's your top CB
CampinWithaMissingPerson 2,025 Posted February 21, 2013 Wonder who's your top CB Well, I believe in fits draft wise, so I am being biased in that I'm thinking if I were the Jags. Milliner is not a good fit for what system the Jags will run. Don't get me wrong, Milliner is solid but I wouldn't value him as the highest. There's no clear cut top CB really tho if you look at it objectively. So I guess I should of cut Mayock slack on that one.

butta54 371 Posted March 4, 2013 -How is Milliner not the top corner? You can put him by himself on an island and he locks down any receiver. He showed the 4.3 speed he used to stop the long ball, he has the size to jam the quick guys, and watch Notre Dame put Eifert out there against him and he shut him down completely. Only corner with day one starting ability. -I think Hunt has the best natural hand technique out of any DL in the draft. I'm not saying he was super productive or always had a motor, but watching this D linemen he is the only one I see naturally running the hoop and for a 6'8 guy he can really get down and play with leverage when he wants. -Overall I think this class will be really really good. I don't need the top talent at QBs to call this a strong draft class, you find more talent in middle rounds every year anyway. At the end of the day I see a number of starters coming out of this draft especially in the trenches. Linemen are too undervalued that is the only reason people are downgrading this class. Vin+ 3,121 Posted March 8, 2013 I was wrong, this QB class really is bad. NFL Network's Mike Mayock has moved Florida State's E.J. Manuel to No. 2 in his quarterback rankings, behind only West Virginia's Geno Smith and ahead of USC's Matt Barkley. Mayock is plugged-in among NFL decision makers, so the move may reflect opinion around the league. "Coming out of the Combine, I felt like there was a quiet buzz among some teams," Mayock explained of Manuel. "Not just his workout. More important, they like the kid, they think he’s smart, and in the meeting rooms at night he passed that test." Mayock has NC State's Mike Glennon fourth among QBs. Syracuse's Ryan Nassib is tied for fifth with Oklahoma's Landry Jones.

Vin+ 3,121 Posted April 6, 2013 NFL Network's Mike Mayock explained on Path to the Draft Friday that he moved Eric Fisher ahead of Luke Joeckel on his offensive tackle rankings because Fisher offers more upside. "I just happen to think that Fisher's ceiling is a little bit higher," Mayock said, citing Fisher's superior length, athleticism, and quicker feet. Mayock insisted that Fisher, Joeckel, and Lane Johnson all have All-Pro NFL potential. They're also likely to all be top-11 draft picks, and quite possibly top 7. NFL Network's Mike Mayock has pegged Duke's Sean Renfree as his sleeper quarterback in the 2013 NFL draft. Mayock pegged North Carolina's T.J. Yates as his sleeper quarterback before the 2011 draft. "He hurt his shoulder on the last snap of their bowl game and might not even get drafted," Mayock said of Renfree. "But he’s got the best anticipation and timing of any quarterback in this draft. Part of it is because he’s got an average arm and has to. (Duke coach) David Cutliffe told me that Sean approaches the game with a work ethic and passion similar to Peyton Manning’s."
