BLUE 1,026 Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) Per Rotoworld.com: Geno Smith was benched in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Bills. Smith was pulled after throwing interceptions on three straight drives. He opened the game just 2-of-8 for five yards, with most of his incompletions coming on bad overthrows. Michael Vick has replaced Smith and could make a case for the job going forward. Smith has thrown an interception in 19 of 24 games in his career. Oct 26 - 1:42 PM Coach Rex Ryan said he has "no idea" who he'll start at quarterback in Week 9. Geno Smith's minor right shoulder issue was not the reason he was benched early in Sunday's ugly loss to the Bills. It was because he threw interceptions on three straight drives, further regressing in his second NFL season. Michael Vick came to complete 18-of-36 passes for 152 yards and an interception, adding 69 yards on eight carries. If Rex wants to win games, Vick would give him a slightly better shot. BigBen07 285 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) lol Jets are such a mess right now. Edited October 27, 2014 by BigBen07
BwareDWare94 723 Posted October 27, 2014 Rex Ryan is at that point as a lame duck coach where he can try and go out on a bright note with some late season wins or he can put the team in the best position to improve in coming years. Actually, fuck it. It's the same thing. Geno isn't a threat to turn the ball over like crazy in EVERY game, but Vick is. Start the kid. Build toward the future. If he implodes through 16 games, then the future clearly involves drafting another quarterback. If he plays well, they can continue to put pieces around him. The Jets have a good 2 in Decker, a good hybrid slot receiver/running back in Percy Harvin, a vastly underrated running back in Chris Ivory, a good TE in Cumberland, and a fairly dangerous pure slot receiver in Jeremy Kerley. Go get a #1 WR if Geno gets better. Get a different quarterback if he sucks the rest of the way. Michael Vick is not the answer in any way, shape, or form. He sucks and the only people who don't seem to know that are analysts and ESPN figureheads who don't know their heads from their asses.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted October 27, 2014 As bad as Geno is, Vick is worse right now. Maybe they should have kept Mark Sanchez...

Go get a #1 WR if Geno gets better. Get a different quarterback if he sucks the rest of the way. Don't forget a promising rookie TE in Jace Amaro. They'll definitely be drafting a quarterback next year. It's pretty much a given that Rex is going to get fired, and new coaches almost always come in and get to hand pick their quarterback. I can't see any new coach thinking they can win with Geno. (At least not in their long term plans)

Bay 2,003 Posted October 27, 2014 Vick is starting against the Chiefs. Don't think Vick even with the preparation will matter much. Too turnover prone. Justin Houston will feast some more.

BLUE 1,026 Posted November 15, 2014 Per Rotoworld.com: ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini believes Geno Smith "might be finished in New York." It would not be a surprise if Geno is cut in the offseason. GM John Idzik will likely be fired at the end of the season, at least in part because he drafted Smith, and the new management team will want to start fresh with a new "quarterback of the future." A second-round pick in 2013, Smith has compiled a 19-to-31 touchdown-to-interception ratio through 24 career starts. JetsFan4Life 542 Posted November 19, 2014 Wouldn't shock me at all if Geno was cut. Keep Vick let him be the QB next year or something. Start looking for the QB of the future (again).
BwareDWare94 723 Posted November 19, 2014 This new NFL that doesn't even allow two seasons of starting for kids to prove themselves anymore is getting out of hand. Geno had some great performances and showed plenty of potential based on how little he had around him. He's not done in the NFL. Not by a long shot. I'm waiting for the team that lets a developmental QB develop over a 1-2 year period instead of pulling the plug as soon as they realize the kid isn't Andrew Luck. There are cases like EJ Manuel and Christian Ponder where they struggle to do even the most basic things, but Geno Smith wasn't nearly as bad as either. Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted November 19, 2014 Geno has been consistently one of the worst QBs in the league when he plays. You're right there is an occasional flash here and there, but I don't think it's enough to rely on nor a reason to keep giving him more time. If there is a glimmer of hope, something more substantial to go off of, I think you stick with Geno. But man.. He is bad. Really, bad. A team who already has a starter may be able to give him the time he needs, but a team looking for a starter today can't throw him out there and flush the team down the toiler in the name of development.
JetsFan4Life 542 Posted November 19, 2014 Sanchez had flashes of looking good too. Hell, practically ANY NFL quarterback who has gotten a chance to start a full NFL season has had "flashes." I wanted to give Geno his chance this year. The Jets did. And he's just worse than last year. There has been nothing that tells me he will fix his mental mistakes so what's the point of keeping him around. Vick isn't a world beater by any means but he's looked better than Geno with the same options. I see no reason why the Jets shouldn't re-sign Vick and start developing a new guy. Is Geno done in the league? No. But is he done as a Jet? Yes.
RazorStar 4,025 Posted November 20, 2014 I don't think either Vick or Geno inspires confidence for me. Cut em both, and try and grab someone in free agency.

seanbrock 1,684 Posted November 20, 2014 The games I've seen with Geno at QB he just flat out looked like he didn't want to be there. Even the little shit like selling a PA pass. Sure the guy has had nothing to work with really, but the Jets went out and spent the money on Decker, drafted a solid young TE and Smith looks like he actually regressed from last year (and that's saying something). Not the guy you want as your QB. I'm sure he'll get his chance to play as a back up somewhere and maybe get a shot at starting somewhere down the line, but the Jets have to cut him. It'd be best for both parties.
