Bills fire Greg Roman, promote Rex's Boy

Recommended Posts

Bills fired OC Greg Roman.

Roman is taking the fall for the failures of Rex Ryan's defense, which was absolutely annihilated by Ryan Fitzpatrick, Matt Forte, and the Jets on Buffalo's home turf Thursday night. Ryan's defense got gashed by the run and couldn't generate any pressure last season, something Rex essentially blamed on outgoing DC Jim Schwartz. The Bills are now blaming Roman. Quickly, the Bills have become one of the NFL's most dysfunctional organizations. A full-on house cleaning will likely take place at season's end.

Bills promoted Anthony Lynn to offensive coordinator.

Lynn is a Rex Ryan guy from New York, where he previously coached running backs for the Jets. His old title with Buffalo was assistant head coach/running backs. The Bills needed someone to blame for Rex's inability to stop offenses, so they fired Greg Roman and gave Lynn -- Rex's longtime buddy -- his job. All of these guys are going to get fired after the season, if not before it ends.

:welp:

Seems like an accurate statement. :notbad:

The Sporting News' Alex Marvez reports the Bills' front office forced coach Rex Ryan to fire OC Greg Roman as a "sacrificial lamb" following Thursday night's embarrassing home loss to the Jets.

Per Marvez, the front office "leaned on" Rex to make a "significant change" in hopes of "appeasing a disgruntled fan base." Ryan couldn't fire himself -- and certainly wouldn't fire his brother Rob -- so he fired Roman, who took the Bills' offense from No. 26 in offensive DVOA in 2014 to No. 9 in 2015, and scored 24 points Thursday night against a tough Jets defense. Meanwhile, Rex's defense finished No. 24 in DVOA in 2015 after ranking No. 2 under Jim Schwartz in 2014, and coughed up 37 points at home to the Jets. Marvez also confirms Rex himself "is feeling the heat" following an 0-2 start. The Bills are set up to start 0-4 with the Cardinals and Patriots next on the schedule.

Making moves with the primary emphasis being "to please the fans" is Exhibit A of a dysfunctional franchise.

If they want to make us happy, they'd fire Whaley. He's the real reason this team is such a mess.

The offense has been a lot better under Roman. Not saying they are amazing, but it was far from his fault. Lol

Not sure how much of that is Roman and how much of that is going from EJ to TyGod.

Roman is pretty bad himself. Just bad timing to fire him after that offensive performance.

its 2 games in,calm down

Didn't you predict the Bills would win the AFC East at 8-8, lmao? Buffalo isn't going anywhere.

You said 8-8, I distinctly remember and Cherry has it down in the predictions thread anyway.

I am curious, though, isn't your thing predicting that teams that will win based on success in the past? Where does Buffalo fall in that? They have the longest active playoff-less streak in the NFL. Doesn't predicting Buffalo to win the East go directly counter to your own logic?

You ignored Thana's main question, how did you arrive at Bills winning the division when you constantly talk about team histories? I think that's what you've cited to support every other prediction you've made here. Looking at the Bills, the last time they were in the playoffs was 1999, which also happens to be the last time they had double digit wins, hell, they've only had two winning seasons since '99, so what are you basing that prediction on? (sorry blots)

Bills are terrible, dude. lol. They have 6-10 written all over them. Shouldn't be shocking, since that what their history suggests they are.... ;)

You're way more optimistic than me.

There was no real reason for the Rams to win? They swept the Seahawks last year, they always play Seattle tough. The Vikings were at home, and their defense is ridiculous.

Parity makes it useless to debate strengths and weaknesses, lmao. Parity means if you pick ten upsets, probably 3-4 of them happen. Doesn't make you some genius. Just means you picked enough upsets that some happened.

Do you just make stuff up out of thin air to make yourself look good all the time?

Just because the Patriots are in decline, (which lmao at that), doesn't automatically mean the Bills are the team who benefits. Why wouldn't the Jets- the team that just beat them and is better all around, certainly at the coaching position- be more poised to take advantage of that?

The Patriots beat the Cardinals who were seen as a SB contender without Brady in. That team is plenty competent.

Is Brady going to be so good he can compensate for that much ineptitude? Because of two quarters in one NFL game, the Patriots are now inept? What about them beating the Arizona Cardinals- in Arizona- minus Brady? Also what happened to your cries against using two whole games as a measuring bar, you're using one fucking half? You are so fucking inconsistent with your own logic and your own arguments, lmao.

Also this is Tom Brady we are talking about. Have you seen the teams this guy has carried? They've been to five straight AFCCGs, for gods sake.

When you are up by 28 points, as the Patriots were, defenses tend to relax, coordinators tend to just guard against the big play. This is really basic football stuff here.

Newsflash bud: you aren't special. And flat out lying about what I said doesn't help your case. Check the pick 'em thread. I picked Denver to win week one. Whoops. So much for that claim of yours, goes right down the drain with a ton of other lies and made up statistics you've claimed since arriving here.

The Vikings game was a tossup if the defense kept playing the way they did in week 1. You crow about the times you picked correctly, but ignore the times you picked upsets and lost. Not to mention, your two "huge upsets" were teams playing division rivals AT HOME. Those games are always tossups, regardless of record. Why did the majority of people pick the Hawks? Because Seattle is the better team. Doesn't seem to matter against the Rams, LA/STL has their number.

Everyone gets lucky. Everyone gets unlucky. It's how this picking thing works, and yes, you are stabbing randomly. If you actually knew what happened even 80% of the time, you'd be a complete fool if you weren't betting on your picks because you'd win a lot of money.
