SteVo+ 3,702 Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) Alright peeps, it's time for another musical tournament around these parts, and this time it's gonna be rock guitarists. Here's how the nominating process works: each member can nominate up to 25 guitarists for the tournament. You do not have to name 25 total. Also, you may designate a top five for--obviously--five of your 25 nominees. These five will be given bonus points to help with seeding for the tournament. Once we get the bracket seeded I'll post up polls with some song clips and epic pictures and it'll make for some great discussion and it'll be beautiful and shit. When you post your list, you don't have to be fancy; just make sure I know which guitarists are your top five. And feel free to edit and tweak your list, as I will be. I only have 21 names but I'm sure I left a few big ones out... ------------------ Jimmy Page Eric Clapton David Gilmour Jimi Hendrix Duane Allman ------------------ Tom Morello John Petrucci Jeff Beck Ritchie Blackmore Tony Iommi Chuck Berry Brian May Pete Townshed Alex Lifeson Keith Richards John Frusciante Slash James Hetfield Eddie Van Halen Zack Wylde Matt Bellamy Synyster Gates Mark Tremonti Billy Gibbons B.B. BwareDWare94 723 Posted April 20, 2011 John Petrucci is missing, and he's technically more skilled than anybody we've listed so far.
Krawnka 282 Posted April 20, 2011 (edited) I dunno MAB is extremely skilled: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Angelo_Batio Batio is (self-taught) ambidextrous, able to play two guitars at the same time either in synchronization or using separate harmonies or even playing completely different parts at once, as shown when he plays his famous Double-Guitar. Though naturally left-handed, he plays as right-handed when playing one guitar. Batio invented the "Over-Under" technique,[9] which involves flipping his fretting hand over and under the neck rapidly, playing the guitar both regularly and like a piano. http://www.webcitation.org/query?url=http://www.geocities.com/imtheoptimator/guitone.jpg&date=2009-10-26+00:24:09 http://philbrodieband.com/muso-shredders.htm I remember, as a teenager, my buddy getting me to listen to his Nitro cassette, he was all about the singer getting high C's..but the guitar was extraordinary..which was MAB with his quad guitar. The mere fact you try and counter someones elses opinion with your own opinion, propped up by outlandish hyperbole....is fuckin hilarious. Just shut the fuck up. I'd rather you showcased your knowledge of music, somehow justifying your inclusion of this incredibly overrated guitarist from an undeniably overrated band. His inferiority to the other names we mentioned is so obvious that even Helen Keller would notice. So take this "you can't say that because it's just an opinon" idea and shove it into your colon. 1

BwareDWare94 723 Posted April 21, 2011 (edited) and if we're factoring blues-rock into this, we need to mention John Mayer. I know that's a swear word for many people, but he's one of, if not the, best guitarists of his generation. Edited April 21, 2011 by BwareDWare94
