**Update** Jason Peters ruptures Achilles a second time

Recommended Posts

Eagles LT Jason Peters will undergo surgery April 2 for a ruptured Achilles suffered in a recent workout.

Facing 9-12 months of rehab, Peters is certain to start the season on the PUP list -- if not miss the entirety of 2012. Graded as the best left tackle in football last season by Pro Football Focus as well as respected analysts, Peters is perhaps the team's most valuable player outside of Michael Vick. His loss puts a dent in the fantasy prospects of both Vick and LeSean McCoy. Backup King Dunlap represents a weak link an offensive line that figured to show continued improvement.

Huge loss. They need him so much more with Vick starting at QB. Tough break guys.

Hate to see guys with season ending injuries....I go through it 3 or 4 times a year before week 1 with the Giants, so this def sucks for Philly especially with a guy like Vick at the healm....All that being said, huge help for us dallas and wash

It's possible the Eagles go O line in the first this year. This changes everything. Peters was the best offensive lineman in football last year. You don't replace that. We're going to need to get guys to step up their game and address this by bringing in a veteran at the very least for depth. This is going to be tough to over come.

But let's say we draft a guy like Riley Reiff or Jonathan Martin. What happens when Peters come back next year? There's no room for them. Unless the Eagles have reservations about Peters ever returning to full health again, I'd rather just get a veteran stopgap on a one-year deal.

Maybe get a versatile guy that can be moved around the line once Peters comes back in 2013.

Cheer up, SteVo.

Here's a tissue...

...and a FA lineman visit.

Per RotoWorld:

The Eagles have scheduled a visit with free agent OT Demetrius Bell for the upcoming weekend.

Bell is in Pittsburgh Friday visiting the Steelers. The Eagles suddenly have a major left-tackle need after losing Jason Peters to a ruptured Achilles'. Bell would at the very least be an adequate replacement, assuming he's healthy.

Oh, damn... sorry to see this happen! Peters is a very solid LT! I wish him a quick and full recovery.

Apparently the Eagles are hosting Bell today/tonight and he'll be spending the night in Philly.

You just love former Bills. Bell is a good lineman, but he can't stay healthy at all.

Demetrius Bell. Injury prone.

Marcus McNeill. Injury prone.

Good luck finding a LT that can stay healthy, Philly. Sucks to lose Peters.

It's interesting to see how much talent the Bills actually let out of Buffalo.

Per Rotoworld.com:

Eagles LT Jason Peters ruptured his Achilles a second time, setting back his recovery three weeks.

A malfunctioning Roll-A-Bout was to blame. The device broke, which led to Peters falling on his face and re-injuring the Achilles. With his 2012 season already in doubt after suffering the initial injury on March 30, Peters' can no longer be relied on for a late-season return. The Eagles signed Demetress Bell to hold down the fort while Peters, arguably the league's top left tackle, recovers. May 14 - 7:16 PM

That should result in a nice lawsuit. Really sucks for Peters and the Eagles, though. I'd say this strongly minimizes the chances he can ever be a good left tackle in the NFL again. Better hope Demetress Bell can be a long-term answer.

Yeah, this is a pretty huge blow to the Eagles needless to say. Hopefully Peters can come back but honestly unless Bell plays some outstanding football the Eagles are going to get a LT early in the draft next year.
