housemd 338 Posted December 10, 2012 (edited) Ravens fired OC Cam Cameron. It's rare that a coordinator gets fired when his team has a 9-4 record, but Cameron has been on thin ice for the better part of two seasons thanks to predictable play-calling, spats with Joe Flacco and vanilla schemes. The Ravens rank just 18th in total offense this season after a 15th-place finish last year. Cameron, 51, will be replaced by ex-Colts boss and current quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell. The news is music to the ears of Ray Rice, who has strangely fallen to the back burner far too many times this season. Rice has been given 13 carries or fewer in three of the last seven games. Vin+ 3,121 Posted December 10, 2012 According to Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole, Monday's firing of Ravens OC Cam Cameron resulted from an "accumulation of personal issues" between Cameron, Joe Flacco, and head coach John Harbaugh. Citing team sources, Cole reports that Cameron was a "control freak" and his firing was done in large part to appease contract-year QB Flacco. Cameron was reportedly concerned with showing "everybody how smart he is every day," and "came off as a preacher at times" in the locker room. The issues between Flacco and Cameron have been public knowledge for the last two-plus seasons. Source: Yahoo Sports

Vin+ 3,121 Posted December 12, 2012 New Ravens OC Jim Caldwell is expected to emphasize the no-huddle approach. Caldwell's claim to fame is riding Peyton Manning and the hurry-up offense to the Super Bowl as head coach of the Colts. The Ravens did plenty of this early on this season, but it was eventually scrapped under the predictable, old-school Cam Cameron. A quicker tempo and more snaps will be a good thing for the statistical upside of Joe Flacco, Ray Rice and the entire Ravens' offense. Omerta+ 1,206 Posted December 12, 2012 Caldwell could run the ol' "Annexation of Puerto Rico" play and not give two shits. Cam Cameron is gone and all is right with the world.
Vin+ 3,121 Posted January 21, 2013 The Ravens have removed the "interim" tag from OC Jim Caldwell's title. Cam Cameron's mid-season replacement will officially be back for 2013. The Ravens have also hired former Eagles DC/OL coach Juan Castillo as their run-game coordinator. Caldwell's return became a formality after the Ravens offense morphed from plodding and predictable to aggressive and consistently productive under his watch. Caldwell has adopted an attacking approach with big-armed QB Joe Flacco, and has taken to spelling Ray Rice often with electric rookie Bernard Pierce. With an entire offseason to shed Cameron's ways coming up after the Super Bowl, Baltimore's entire arsenal of skill players should be considered "on the rise" for 2013.
