Percy Harvin traded to Seahawks

Recommended Posts

Sounds like the Vikings got away with one here. Nice job Rick! Really surprised the Hawks gave up a first rounder for a diva WR, that wants huge money and has never top 1,000 yards receiving.

Wow, a first for him? Vikings are gonna be the team to watch out for in the NFC this season.

Seahawks overpaid. They gave up a 1st, 4th and 7th rounder for a guy who has never even had 1,000 yards and has health/lockerroom issues. The Bears were able to get Brandon Marshall last year for just two 3rd rounders.

Good job, Vikings.

It may seem like much but if you think about the Seahawks situation, it's not a bad move imo. They have one of the youngest teams in the NFL and a great team at that. Their core is team is already built for the next several years under contract. Who knows how far the Seahawks would have gotten if Carroll didn't blow the game for them. No, Harvin never hit 1,000 yards (even though he was well on pace before he got hurt) but people need to look at the bigger picture. He is a play maker. He's a versatile weapon that can be used in a lot of different ways. He's a return specialist (better than Leon) and can be utilized to cause mismatches on offense. People get too caught up in the stats. Having a scrambling QB that can break the pocket and bide time for his receivers to get open in Wilson, a player maker possible mismatch speedy WR that can stretch the field, and a bruiser ground and pound RB like Lynch in the back field; I think that's an awesome fit. It's definitely high risk but a potential high reward as well. Like I said, the Seahawks are a good team with only a couple of holes missing. Carroll took a risk and I think it will give a good return (if Harvin stays healthy).

Yeah, I'm still having trouble swallowing how much we gave up for him. Even if he works out and becomes the long term recieving threat we need it's still too much for him at this time. Plus we have to give him a new contract.

Carrol has made some crazy moves, but they've worked out more often than not. Without desicsions like this we wouldn't have Marshawn Lynch or Russell Wilson. I worry about Harvin's health issues, but if he can stay on the field he ahs the talent to be a force. He'll also have much more talent around him which can only help his production (hopefully).

None of this defends giving up three picks for him (Two this year, one next year), but if it works out I doubt anyone will remember how much we paid to get him. Here's hoping Crazy Pete scores another home run.

I don't know that the Seahawks overpaid necessarily. We all have seen how explosive Harvin is, if he can stay on the field for an entire season, I think the Seahawks made out real good.

I agree that it isn't too bad for the Seahawks because they really needed a WR and already have most of their nucleus on the team, but that still doesn't change the fact that they vastly overpaid for him. I think they would have been better off picking up a guy like Mike Wallace or Greg Jennings.

Percy Harvin has never gotten over 1,000 yards in a season, is constantly bitching and playing because of his headaches, and has been rumored to be a problem in the locker room. The Seahawks are taking a pretty big risk giving up as much as they did for Harvin, IMO.

The answer is quite simple. Our OC is Darell Bevell. Ex-Vikings OC. It is kind of funny how we've pillaged the entire Vikings offense though. We took their backup Qb and their two best recievers. I wonder if we can ge tthem to give us AP next?

That makes sense then. For whatever reason I was thinking that there wasn't a connection and the Seahawks just had an affinity for Vikings.

Wallace maybe, though he's an even bigger crybaby than Harvin, and his production has dropped off a bit after his hold-out. Jennings is getting older, has been hurt alot recently, and his production has flatlined. We needed a young playmaker to anchor our recieving corps for the forseeable future. Harvin is young, and dynamic. Plus he has experience with our OC Darrell Bevell. He's also a much better fit for our offense than either Wallace or Jennings.

Percy Harvin - WR - Seahawks

Mar 11 - 6:22 PM

The 2014 "mid-round pick" the Vikings are acquiring as part of the Percy Harvin trade is expected to be a third-rounder.

It means the Vikings are coming away with a first-, second- and third-day pick in exchange for their No. 1 receiver. It's still not equal value for a player of Harvin's caliber, but far exceeds what the Dolphins received for Brandon Marshall. It also betters the package Randy Moss fetched in 2005. It's a small price to pay for an elite receiver still two months shy of his 25th birthday.

Read-option with Wilson, Lynch and Harvin in the backfield is gonna be filthy. The way I look at it, if Harvin were available in this year's draft, he wouldn't last beyond pick 5. So we use a 4th (conditional 3rd) and a 7th (we have 3) to move up 20 spots in the 1st. That's a good deal. The injury thing is way overplayed, IMO. Before hurting his ankle last year (against the Seahawks, ironically), he had only missed 3 of 48 games. He'll be reunited with Sidney Rice and OC Darrell Bevell, and on a contender, so he should be happy. The only issue I have with this deal is that it put's a strain on our cap situation the next few years when we need to resign ET, Sherm, Kam, and Wilson.

No way Harvin would be picked in the top 5 in this year's draft. Receivers only get taken there if they have elite skillset and tools (Unless if you're Blackmon which was a terrible move). He doesn't have elite speed, or size for his position, and was being considered by a lot of people as a early second, late first.

I don't get this move for the Seahawks though. There are a lot of receivers who bring what Harvin does (maybe not to his level, but still). He's gonna ask for elite money, and they have a stacked secondary they are gonna need to start signing to extensions/etc soon.

They have a great track record in the draft, just keep that going...

that's the biggest issue IMO, unless you're willing to give him that huge contract you're really just trading for a one year rental

Completely understandable, but let's just say he is able to stay healthy this coming season and he produces at an elite level for the Seahawks. Do you pay him that elite money when he demands it? Not to mention, if he does stay healthy, who are the Seahawks going to take with their #1 pick this year that would ammount in the playmaking ability of Harvin? Probably no one imo.

Harvin is definitely electric, and he will definitely make the Seahawks better... When he decides to show up.

Two sources tell Yahoo Sports that the "straw that broke the Vikings' back" with Percy Harvin was Harvin "bemoaning" the fact that Christian Ponder is a poor starting quarterback.

Harvin believed Ponder was "not good enough." Harvin's complaints about GM Rick Spielman's handpicked franchise quarterback expedited his way out of town, despite Ponder's consistent ability to get him the football. Before his 2012 year-ending injury, Harvin was on pace for 111 receptions, and his game reached new heights the season before after Ponder replaced Donovan McNabb. Seattle must not be worried about Harvin throwing Russell Wilson under the bus.

Not only does Harvin suffer from chronic migraines, but he causes them as well.

Per Rotoworld.com:

Profootballtalk.com reports that a new contract for Percy Harvin is already in place with the Seahawks.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora previously suggested Harvin could command $12 million annually, which would make him the league's third-highest paid receiver behind Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald. PFT's Mike Florio confirms Harvin's deal "won't be close" to Megatron and Fitz. The bottom line is Harvin isn't a one-year rental in Seattle. They're locking up the 24-year-old long term. I disagree, name 5 players in the NFL that can do what Percy Harvin can. I mean, you say maybe not at his skill level but there's a pretty big difference between Harvin and say Danny Amendola. Harvin might not be a guy you throw fades to in the Redzone but he's such a versatile and explosive athlete. He can be an x-factor time player.

If he stays healthy. He does great work as a pseudo running back, but he can't stay on the field.

With his injury concerns... do you want to use him as a RB and in the option game? Ehhhh
