And here I'm hoping Jon gets back into coaching so he gets the fuck out of the MNF booth.

What has Kyle Shanahan done to earn a HC job? Be Mike's kid?

I really hope Zimmer and Horton get their chances. Here we thought Arizona was foolish to not hire Ray, and they went and got the best option the market had.

I've grown to like Gruden in the booth, even though he's annoying.

As for Horton, normally I'm inclined to agree that he would make a great head coach, but what does it say about him that the Cardinals, who know him best, didn't want to hire him when they finally had a head coaching vacancy? Were they just that in love with Bruce Arians?

Fart's lists are incredibly good, though I'd add David Shaw to this year's list (think he'll be just as coveted as Chip Kelly and Doug Marrone were), and I'd also add Ken Wisenhunt to the "down the road" list.

Honestly I'm not sure Kevin Sumlin gets a NFL HC gig anytime soon. He has no NFL experience at all.

David Shaw on the other hand has some. He was Rich Gannon QB coach during one of Gannons better season.

Mike Zimmer has deserved his shot for awhile now and is always been interviewed for openings. He appears to be the NFLs Brian Shaw. I think he finally gets his shot this offseason.

I think our DC Mike Pettine has a shot at a head coach job down the road. Hes completely turned our defense around with little change in personel (ok Kiko is a beast but he's not the only reason for such a jump).

Well, Sumlin and Texas A&M signed a 6-year contract extension. So there's that.

Horton wants to be a HC. And if he doesn't get it with us he'd go elsewhere. I don't want that to happen. If he's going to be a HC anywhere I hope it's here.

Other people around the league not previously mentioned:

Greg Knapp could be a potential OC/HC for another team. Had some good years with the Falcons and the Texans. Knock against him would be his stints with the Raiders that didn't fare all to well.

Bob Sutton, Dan Quinn

Mike Zimmer??? You'd have to pry him from my cold, dead hands. We know what we have in Zimmer and we would let ANYBODY else go before we even think of letting him go.

As if Cinci has a choice if he chooses to go elsewhere to be a HC?

If the organization was smart they'd make Marv Lewis GM and move Zimmer to HC.

And no one can get a crack at Zimmer until after the 2014 season.

Err... you do realize they can break contracts?

they could do the same thing the Cowboys did when Baltimore tried to hire Jason Garrett, offer him the same amount (or more) to stay as DC, the difference being I don't think he'd ascend to head coach as quickly as Garrett did in Dallas

Would fail as a HC imo

I don't see Zimmer as head coach material. Think he is best staying as a DC.

Looks like the Texans might be the first team to officially be in the hunt for one of those future NFL head coaches...

@SI_PeterKing:

I expect Gary Kubiak will be fired today as the coach of the Texans.

At this point I'm pulling for Ray Horton or Darrell Bevell. (Seahawks OC)

Zimmer would be nice too, but I'm not sure if I'd like to see the defense transition to a 4-3.

This seems a reasonable place for this question since it might be a tad early to make a separate thread...

Which coaches will ultimately get the axe before season's end?

Coaches I think are destined for the axe:

Mike Shanahan

Rex Ryan

Mike Munchak

Coaches on the hot seat who I think will stay:

Tom Coughlin

Mike Smith

Jim Schwartz

Greg Schiano

Joe Philbin

Mike Tomlin

A lot more guys on my secondary list than I thought. The 2015 offseason could be another one of those where we see a third of coaches fired.

Rex Ryan is a better coach than some people give him credit for. He is a bit of a loud mouth but he can sure coach a Defense.

I have a feeling the Texans may just keep Wade Phillips a HC. They really love him there.

I really don't understand how Rex deserves to go. They don't give him a QB and yet say "win." It's not something that produces extended success in today's NFL.

Ryan traded up to draft Sanchez shortly after his hiring then extended him, Sanchez has always been Ryan's QB so you can't really excuse him based on not having a QB when he got to bring in and develop his own and failed at it
