Cowboys interested in Brandon Weeden

Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones has an idea in mind for Tony Romo’s next backup: Brandon Weeden.

Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com reports that the Cowboys are interested in Weeden, a 2012 first-round draft pick of the Browns who was cut this week.

Kyle Orton is currently the Cowboys’ backup quarterback, and Orton played reasonably well in Week 17 in place of the injured Romo. But there’s been some talk that Orton might retire, and the Cowboys might see Weeden as the next-best option if Orton decides to walk away. Or they could just be interested in Weeden as the third-string quarterback behind Romo and Orton.

The 30-year-old Weeden, who got a late start on football after playing five years of minor league baseball, has completed 55.9 percent of his passes, with 23 touchdowns and 26 interceptions, in two years in the NFL.

The Browns drafted Weeden 53 picks ahead of Russell Wilson and 66 picks ahead of Nick Foles. He is also older than Aaron Rogers, Alex Smith, Matthew Stafford, Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco. Think about that. That is how stupid the Browns front office is. I'm not even a Cleveland fan and I'm outraged by the stupidity.

Great work on the montage and it's popularity.

I remember way back on the CBS boards (when they were still active message boards there) the very first year Weeden was playing asking Brown's fans if they already regretted the pick. The vast majority of the responses then were along the lines of 'no way, do you know how long we even had a qb who was a threat to throw 300 yards in a game'. The love affair surely didn't last long.

Rarely does lightning strike twice, but that first one was pure gold. Just watched it for the first time. Eat like that guy you know young Thomas. You've earned it.
