JetsFan4Life 542 Posted June 15, 2014 I went to Cleveland yesterday and the trip was awesome. But we went to the mall and I bought a Kyrie jersey and a framed picture of Jacobs Field and brought them to the arena football game we went to. Left the shit under my seat and by the time I realized and went back it was gone. $100 down the drain.
SteVo+ 3,702 Posted December 17, 2014 Teaching has been an amazing experience thus far, but today I had my first experience with cheating. I had circumstantial evidence at first, then realized I can prove it. Thor's hammer is coming down tomorrow.

SteVo+ 3,702 Posted December 17, 2014 Oh snap. What are you planning on doing? This may be complicated, and I've probably watched too much 24, but... The cheaters clearly got the answers for two questions from someone who took the midterm on Monday. (The cheaters took it on Tuesday.) I interrogate each one Jack Bauer style, threatening things like suspensions, and at least one of them will give up the informant.
Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted December 17, 2014 Everybody involved getting punished? As in the person giving up the information and the people using it? Do you think you will change anything, like maybe different versions of tests for people who take it on different days?
Tridentdawgpound 1,043 Posted December 17, 2014 I had a class in high school (AP course) where there was a 2nd and 6th period. I was in 6th. I learned that a few people in the 2nd were in my classes throughout the day. On quiz/test days I would ask these people what was on the quiz/test and I would look up the info they gave me. It is pretty much the only reason I passed that class because I did zero other studying.

Do you think you will change anything, like maybe different versions of tests for people who take it on different days? The four cheaters (I like calling them the Fantastic Four) will, at the very least, get a 0% for their midterm grade. I'm not sure I can give them an F for the entire semester, but I'll threaten them with it regardless unless they give up the informant, who will get the same fate. Overall, the Broward County policies are excruciatingly generous towards students. There's very little I can officially do. Fun fact: teachers aren't allowed to give homework over weekends. Can you believe that? We still do, of course, but we're technically not suppposed to. Back on topic, my two calculus classes (4th and 7th period) are definitely getting different tests from now on, especially if the test falls on different days. Wouldn't that cause fairness problems when it comes to one test being more difficult?
Sarge+ 3,436 Posted December 17, 2014 Not if the problems are exactly the same kind just with different numbers. You go, Mr. Steven.
BwareDWare94 723 Posted December 17, 2014 Gotta put two rear struts in my car. It's old--170000 miles, but I'm smack dab in the middle of my slower work months and don't want to take on a new car just yet. I also have to put plugs and wires in, but I don't think that should cost too much. Man, fuck car prices, these days. Companies are way out of line with what they want. Seems kind of harsh to me, but I guess they did cheat on an exam so it'd be a fair punishment (even though you're just threatening it). That's crazy that you're not allowed to give homework over weekends. What a joke.
Thanatos 2,847 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) Anyone cheats on my courses, I do my best to fail them for that class, so long as I know beyond any doubt that they did indeed cheat. The only exception I have ever made was for a student that showed a ton of remorse, and told me himself that he had cheated on it, and then voluntarily suggested extra work to make up for it and I eventually gave him a 50% on that test, which allowed him to get a B-. Everyone else has gotten an automatic zero on the test they cheated on, and in several cases I have given out Fs in the course for cheating on a single exam. I will do the absolute utmost I can do to help a student who is struggling, but resorting to cheating removes your integrity and any reason for me to trust you. Edit: I say everyone else, this could be miscontrued- I have only had seven cases of cheating, so six people got zeroes on that test- three failed the course entirely- and the other is the student I mentioned. SteVo+ 3,702 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) Slight clarification: the cheaters get an F on the midterm exam, not necessarily for the entire semester. Also, every single one of the accused cheaters confessed fully upon immediate interrogation. The full conspiracy has been discovered and dealt with. In other news...Thanatos is a teacher??? Thanatos 2,847 Posted December 17, 2014 I have taught a bit, yes. Never as a full-time job- I did have a job for a year straight teaching- as of yet, though I am looking around for one at that position.

OSUViking 505 Posted August 29, 2015 I don't mean to sound depressing but I've lost almost all capacity to feel anything toward anyone not in my immediate family over the last year. BwareDWare94 723 Posted September 17, 2015 A buddy of mine from college shot his dad and then himself last Saturday. Obviously, I found out through the news. It was rather shocking and altogether hard to process. The things we don't know people are capable of.
Maverick 791 Posted September 25, 2015 ^Sorry to hear that, BWare. Did they find out why he may have done it? Little backstory on my bad news: Last year I suffered a pulled groin. Couldn't play soccer for almost two months. I'd say it took several months for my groin to fully heal and not be in slight pain after playing a game. Fast forward to a few months ago and I felt a lump in between where my groin and thigh meet. It was on the same side (right) that I pulled my groin so I assumed whatever this lump may be could be connected to the pull. Since I had this "lump", I've been feeling discomfort in that same area of the groin - after playing soccer, sitting/laying in certain positions for an extended time, etc. I figured it may be time to see a doctor just to see what the hell this is. I saw the doctor last night and it turns out I have an inguinal hernia. Doctor believes the pulled groin damaged the tendons or whatever and then I must have done something to set it off a few months ago. He's sending me to a specialist in about two weeks so he can also diagnose it. It'll require surgery, but from what I'm hearing the operation/recovery period isn't bad at all. The thing that sucks the most is I won't be able to get back on the field for a while. I can't play now and the doctor said starting from the time of the surgery (whenever that'll be) recovery period will be about 6 weeks.

Socal 524 Posted October 4, 2015 So I receive a skin exam with a dermatologist every three months and yesterday they found a new skin lesion. I have to get it removed sometime next week, it'll then get sent to the lab for a biopsy. To be honest I was expecting this, just not so soon from the last one. I'm not particularly worried. Hopefully it's not very thick and I won't need an extensive surgery like last time. The effects of the surgery are really my main concern at the moment. RazorStar 4,025 Posted October 4, 2015 Don't worry Socal, just keep on fighting the good fight. I hope it's not too bad, but since you're getting checked regularly it can't be too bad, I would think.
