Favre4Ever+ 4,476 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) There is a lot of stuff in this video, but I love the first clip the most. We, as the Western world, need to learn to accept other peoples' beliefs... like the belief that you can cast black magic to summon a lightning bolt to strike someone. Edit: In fact, denying this means you're denying science just like the girl in the video. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ravishly/neuroscience-proves-what-_b_6494820.html This is proving nothing. I agree there are people who do align perfectly with either gender, but that does not mean they are non-binary or some other horseshit definition they've created. If you're a feminine guy, cool. If you're a masculine chick, cool. But even most trans people are simply trying to identify more with one particular gender than they are trying to identify as some bullshit. Your brain not perfectly matching up with one particular gender or the other does not mean you're special and deserving of an all new gender.

Cherry 1,302 Posted October 21, 2016 Apparently you don't know about intersex people. There are definitely more than two genders, though I agree its gotten waaaay out of hand. Even intersex people will tend to lean one way or another though, yes? Those are incredibly rare regardless. If they don't, that's fine. As was stated earlier your femininity or masculinity is largely dependent on the makeup of your brain. That is perfectly fine. Being feminine and masculine at the same time doesn't mean you have to make up a new gender to fit in, it's just who you are.

Thanatos 2,847 Posted October 24, 2016 (edited) no it hasnt. Only to think how they want you to. I could walk into any philosophy class and raise logical hell and no one would want to challenge me and I would simply be insulted or told I was crazy and to leave. I could do the same in any religious studies or history class. if you dont learn what they want you to learn the way they want you to learn it,you are a deviant. based on only the definition they give you of what that is. the sun is 93 million miles from earth? not one damn person on the entire earth can prove it. Not one single person. were you here when Christopher Columbus bumped into the east coast? you have no idea even if that story happened or what happened before or after it is remotely true. was the South actually evil? or were they trying to fight for the same thing we are now because we dont like the current state of govt? How do you know the North wasnt the oppressor ? the only answer you have is..because you read something somewhere. Alright. Ignoring the latter part of your post where you go completely off the crazy train and act like we can't prove that the sun is 93 million miles away, (we can, its rather easy, though its really between 91.5 and 94.5 million miles away due to Earth's orbit not being completely circular), and that Christopher Columbus didn't bump into the east coast because "you weren't there", let's call your bullshit. I have a master's degree in Philosophy. I have taught philosophy. Ask me something you think is unanswerable in that field. Go ahead. Raise "logical hell." Cherry 1,302 Posted October 24, 2016 I'm literally in college m8. High school was very straight edged and set in its ways but college has literally only helped to pursue creative thinking. For instance we debate the various ways history can be perceived. Causes and effects. Was the development of Europe due to commerce or due to technology? Was the structure of society in Korea and China successful from 1500-1700? Things that are seriously up for debate. Hell, the primary question in my exam was which civilization do you believe was the most successful from 1500-1800 and why? I could argue for the Mughal empire. Or I could argue that in some universe the Incan society was superior to the Mongol society. It's all largely an exercise of debate and critical thinking. Of course Columbus didn't land on the East Coast. He landed in the West Indies And yes, there is proof he landed in the West Indies. From physical remnants from the expedition to the historical records of the journey to the impact it left on the local populations. Actually, we've had debates like that. There is certainly an argument that the South was simply fighting for separation for a number of economic reasons and that they were far from evil. I've personally never viewed the south as evil anyways, just a collective group with a common interest. Hell, even Hitler could be seen as far from evil. He was simply a man who believed his radical ideology would purify his nation and make them the greatest civilization that has ever existed. Incredibly nationalistic and disregarding of rights, sure, but he still had a goal that he believed benefitted himself and his citizens.

seanbrock 1,684 Posted October 24, 2016 (edited) College's don't really preach independent thinking in most cases. I think there are good professors who do at every university and try not to influence their students opinions, especially in a philosophy class, but college's are definitely biased towards neoliberal thinking mostly and depending on your major communist or socialist thinking. I think the biggest reason being most teachers are going to lean to thinking like a democrat simply because of the nature of their occupation and the fact that they're a part of a union. I think it's really a big reason why so many young people were pro Bernie Sanders because so many more young people go to college than in generations past. It's a big reason why a guy who was openly a "social democrat" ever had any kind of following. I think that's probably something that needed to happen though because our country has been so conservative for so long that balance needed to be struck. Bill Clinton brought the Democrats to the right because the Republican's were killing the democrats politically and the results were pretty disastrous. We lost any kind of push back against "free trade" deals. The unions were crushed. Wall street was deregulated and the income gap between the richest Americans and poorest Americans is approaching robber baron era disparities. We need liberals to protect the people from getting screwed over by big business and the conservatives to reign them in when they get too crazy in expanding the government and for a lot of years we've just had one side pushing their agenda. You can argue about "Obama Care" if you want but if you think that's a liberal idea you don't understand what happened. The only way it really would have expanded government was if there was a public option. All that did was enable insurance companies and big pharma to raise their prices and do whatever the fuck they want because there's no protection for the people against them raising their prices. If you want to get everyone health coverage forcing them to buy private insurance is the worst way to do it. Edited October 24, 2016 by seanbrock
