Lynch Trademarks "I'm Just Here So I Won't Get Fined"

Recommended Posts

after today's stunt, I don't buy the "social anxiety" angle at all, he's just a guy who doesn't like the media and doesn't want to cooperate with reporters

Tell me about it. Sorry Phail, I'm not feeling bad for him. Unless that's just his way of covering up social anxiety which apparently only you, Marshawn, and a group of Seahawks fans (surprise surprise) can understand.

I  'd at his Skilttles interview when I heard it on the radio today at work. He totally shows up the NFL in this vid and I love it. Not only is he actually answering real questions, he's making money back that he lost from his ridiculous fines.

In your face, NFL.

What's my opinion of Marshawn? He's a damn good running back, who also happens to be a goofball. That is all.

Lynch has had his share of problems with the law to be fair.

Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch spent the few minutes he was on the podium at Tuesday's Super Bowl media day saying, over and over again, "I'm just here so I won't get fined."

Unfortunately, for Lynch, showing up wasn't the only criteria. Sources tell ESPN that, after the Super Bowl, the league will review whether the hat Lynch wore during the event was permissible. If the league rules that Lynch used Media Day to promote a brand that was not approved by the league, he could face a significant fine. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy declined to comment.

The NFL makes clear to players that they cannot wear brands that conflict with league partners on the field during games and during postgame interviews. That is extended to Super Bowl Media Day, where a record amount of cameras are on the players.

That's why the league fined Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher $100,000 for wearing a Vitaminwater hat on his podium during Super Bowl XLI in 2007. The league had, and still has, an official drink deal with Pepsi, which also owns Gatorade.

Lynch's hat had his own BeastMode logo on it. The hat was selling on the clothing line's web site and advertised as "the hat Marshawn wore during the 2015 SB Media Day." The hat, which cost $33, sold out and the website noted this morning that it was hoping to restock it as soon as possible.

The league frowns on players using what is considered a league event to promote something that it has not approved. And despite Lynch's short time on the podium on Tuesday, he certainly got a lot of free advertising from news clips and social media showing the hat throughout the day.
Lynch's situation isn't exactly parallel to Urlacher's in that Lynch wasn't wearing a brand that competes with a league sponsor. The hat is made by New Era, which is the official hat of the NFL.
Lynch is no stranger to fines. In November, he was fined $50,000 for not talking to the media and another $50,000 that was being withheld by the league from the 2013 season that was contingent upon his future cooperation with the press. Lynch was also fined $11,050 for grabbing his crotch after a touchdown in a late December game against the Arizona Cardinals. He was fined $20,000 for doing the same thing in the NFC Championship Game.
Online sportsbook Sportsbook.com had a prop bet on whether Lynch would get fined for Media Day. The odds of that happening were set at 8/1, but the sportsbook lowered odds significantly after bets came in heavy for Lynch to get docked.

It'll be interesting how it shakes out.

The logo on it promotes his Beast Mode line. But the caps are created by New Era, which is the officially licensed NFL vendor for caps/headwear.

Probably most of my points have been said already.

But Lynch doesn't like the media more so than he has an anxiety. Media is extra annoying to begin with, but the way they tried to exploit and ridicule him early on in his career gave him a reason to hate being in front of those cameras and microphones.

Now are the one-liner phrases a true reaction to fear? No, but it might be something a little more. It might be him rebelling in his own way. Choosing to say he doesn't agree with the rules and he wants to flex his rights fine or no fine. Or maybe in the most simple terms he is giving you crap answers so you can stop asking him crap questions.

My real question is to the NFL of why they force "star players" to provide more avaliability (actually phrased that way in the rules). Who determines who is a star or not? And if they want to talk why is it so important that you make them when you fine them for speaking any type of real truth that is in your eyes "detrimental" to the league?

My next question is to the media. WHY DO YOU KEEP ASKING LYNCH QUESTIONS????? You obviously see that you and even Deion Sanders aren't getting any answers. So you go to him and get nothing then turn around and complain.

In my eyes Lynch plays hard and gives it up for his team and the sport. He turns around and is working around the clock to create ways to give back to the Oakland community he is from. And we beat him down over this?

the irony here is that if he would just go and answer a few questions from the media all anyone would have to talk about is his play on the field

I've liked Lynch since he came into the league as a Buffalo Bill. Dont have any issues with him. I actually think he's a funny guy.

Every day that he goes back to that podium, it seems like his act is less and less "anxiety" and more "attention whore"... Seems more like just a different guy who thinks and acts differently than what we perceive to be 'normal'. Nothing wrong with that, of course.

He's an attention whore? What? That's what you got out of today's interview? Interesting. Lol.

Seriously though, if you pay attention to his words and actions, it's pretty clear he doesn't give a damn about attention. He is who he is and won't acquiesce to anyone. The only attention he seeks is for his teammates and his charity/Oakland.

More so than him being in actual peril or discomfort ? Absolutely. He had a well planned and thought out opening statement... I think part of it is that a lot of you think he is just incredibly stupid. He's weird... He's different. But he isn't stupid. He's building an image for himself. A rebel that gets 'picked on' by the big bad NFL...

Branding at its finest.

I think his act is very entertaing, I like it. Him doing this is 10x more interesting than the canned answers we get from everyone else. I doubt he has anxiety, he seemed fine giving his long speech today. Not sure what his end game is, maybe he is building his brand, but I really just think he gets annoyed and doesn't wanna be there. He knows it's just a bunch of cliches you have to repeat over and over, what's the point?

Don't mind what he does. NFL is so thirsty to find a problem with everything he does :yao:.

The guy scores a touchdown and deliberately grabs his crotch to be seen by everyone. How is he not an attention whore?

I couldn't agree enough with this. Hearing him go on a rant about the media trying to get a story out of him makes no sense at all. They ask the questions, you give them the same ass generic responses everyone gives them, we all move on.

Instead, he is literally drawing attention to himself, and got everyone making up excuses as to him not wanting the attention.
